       五常 Gojo
The 5 Confucian virtues
Philosophy is integral for the martial artist to develop fully as a complete person.
The Tokugawa Shogunate adopted Confucianism as an official ideology, and Gojo became a samurai’s ethics standard.

JIN 仁 (benevolence)

GI 義  (justice)

REI礼 (courtesy)

CHI 智 (wisdom)

SHIN 信 (sincerity)
The five pleats in the front of a hakama represent the 5 virtues.

    Sword Etiquette

A samurai's sword was sometimes spoken of as his Soul.

Do not step over someone's sword instead of circling around it, or to touch it without the owners permission.

Never touch the blade of anyone's sword, when handling it.
Do not exhale on a sword

When you pass a unsheathed blade, the blade should be towards yourself, showing the blade.

Though the samurai sword is a lethal weapon, our ancestors sought to walk in the path to enlightenment termed "Ku".  Through training, they learned to control their ego and tried to get to a higher level of mental and spiritual development.

Your training includes:
You will g
ain an insight in to what underlies the Japanese culture.
True warriors know that the most essential part of training is to sharpen your sensitivity to avoid danger. To be able to develop this sensitivity, meditaion is regarded one of the most important mental training.

Upon learning the proper manner for entering the dojo, the etiquette for beginning and ending class, the correct way to show respect to the sword and handle it properly,  you will learn to move and cut diagnally and horizontally. For two-hour session,  you'll have short partner training which will help develop proper distance, positioning and correct timing and focusing. The training is subject to change depending on the level of learner's skills.

Samurai:
The S
amurai class was established by the 12th century.  Samurai worked for feudal lords and renouned for their bravery and code of honor. Also they were well-educated martial artists. They adhered to the code of warriors that forbade them from striking enemies from behind or pillaging unnecessarily. If they dishonored themselves or the samurai tradition, they were honor-bound to commit ritual suicide, known as Seppuku.

Our historical background:
We introduce our traditional method of swordsmanship with roots that can be traced back more than 420 years.
Our our ancestors were awarded, by the Tokugawa Shogunate, the title of Jikisan Hatamoto (high class warrior who could meet the shogun and receive orders directly), and served the government for 265 years.
The arts and traditions have been handed down to this date.
